Microwave: much more than just reheat

Many people use their microwave just as a leftover heater. What a waste! In fact, it can do so much more, like sterilising objects, roasting, or making infusions.

Curious to discover the many other surprising usages? Keep reading!

Microwave tricks

Here are 5 unexpected ways to use your microwave that will allow you to save time, energy, and to bring a little fun to your home life.

Sterilising the sponge scourers

Wash the sponges with cold water and wring them out. Fill up a microwave-safe bowl with water and lemon juice (or a small glass of vinegar). Immerse the scourers, set the timer of the microwave for 5 minutes at P100 et voilà, there you have it! You can also use this procedure, to sterilise other items such as baby bottles, dummies, or jars.

Roasting almonds

Arrange 100 gr of almonds on a microwave tray, with a little space between them. Cook for 3 minutes at P100, but remember to check after 2 minutes. When roasted, leave the almonds for 2 more minutes inside the oven.

Ginger Infusion

Wash a piece of ginger and cut it into thin slices. Put 3 cups of water and the sliced ginger in a microwave-safe bowl and cook it for 7 minutes at P100. Then, wait for 10 minutes, filter it and serve it.

Scrambled eggs

Beat two eggs together with two tablespoons of milk, a pinch of salt and pepper in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook for 2 minutes at P100 and there you have your yummy scrambled eggs!

Decrystallize honey

Honey that has solidified can be brought back to liquid life. Do you want to know how? It’s easy: just open the jar and heat from 30 seconds to 1 minute at P100.
