How to best place your kitchenware in the dishwasher

An indispensable tool in everyday life, the dishwasher is the most convenient, economical and rapid way to wash dishes after a meal. Precisely for this reason, it is important to know how to place dishes inside to ensure optimal cleaning, to avoid a Tetris-style interlocking arrangement or (even worse) to prevent any damage to your kitchen utensils. Here are a few simple rules to keep in mind next time you need to load it:

First, remember to rinse the dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. This way you will eliminate food residue that can stick to the appliance and impair its functionality.

Insert the plates in the lower level, so that the upper part faces the centre, and make sure that they are separated from each other so that the water jet can thoroughly wash them.

Cups and glasses, on the other hand, should be placed in the upper level at a slight angle to allow the water jet from below to reach every corner.

Similarly, bowls should be placed on the upper level, since in this case a slanted position is also preferable in order to use the space efficiently and to allow the water jet from below to reach every corner of the dish. Make sure that you only insert plastic containers on the upper level, as on the lower level there is a risk of them melting or warping due to close proximity with the electrical resistance.

Pots and pans should be placed on the lower level, together with cutlery, which should be inserted in the special container, taking care to turn the points of the knives downwards so that you avoid cutting yourself when you remove them. If the cutlery is too large (e.g. bread knife) then place it on the top level together with the ladles.

In short, space matters in the dishwasher. This is why Candy has designed the Simply-Fi  app  which lets you ask “what you should put in each basket”  Discover the range here!
